Urgent appeal: Make donations to support the relief operations in tsunami-stricken South Asia

2004-12-31

On 26 December 2004, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck the northern Sumatra, Indonesia, sending massive tidal waves that ravaged 11 countries in Southeast Asia, South Asia and East Africa. As of yesterday, more than 120,000 people have been killed. Officials of the United Nations informed that the 5 million victims in the region are in lack of basic necessities such as food, water and sanitation facilities. The World Health Organisation also warned that the death toll may increase to 200,000 if there are outbreaks of epidemic diseases. Extensive relief operations are being carried out and assistance from the international community is urgently needed.

In support of the emergency operations, the TIC Bonding Fund is going to donate HK$50,000 to the Hong Kong Red Cross. The TIC also appeals to you for your generous donations to support the rescue and rehabilitation work of the various international relief agencies in order to help those victims ride out the predicaments and rebuild their homes.

Act now and make your donations!
