Some agents will resume Thailand and Vietnam tours

2014-06-11

The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TIC) has learned that from 17 June onwards, some travel agents will resume their Thailand and Vietnam package tours whereas others will continue to cancel such tours.

The TIC wishes to remind those travel agents which will resume their Thailand and Vietnam package tours that they should:

(1) clearly inform their consumers that the Red Outbound Travel Alerts for both
Thailand and Vietnam are still in force, and state in the receipts that their customers are aware of such a situation; and
(2) give priority to the safety of their customers and avoid arranging for the tour
groups to any high-risk places, and contact relevant government departments and the TIC as quickly as possible should the tour groups run into any unexpected incidents.

And for those consumers who wish to join Thailand or Vietnam package tours, they should:

(1) carefully weigh the risks involved and protect their own safety; and
(2) contact their insurance companies to understand the scope of cover of the travel
  insurance taken out by them.

As for those who have signed up for Thailand or Vietnam package tours, if their tours are going to depart on or after 17 June and they wish to withdraw from the tours, they should directly contact their travel agents to work out a solution.

The TIC will closely monitor the situations in Thailand and Vietnam, and keep in close contact with the Security Bureau, relevant organisations and travel agents.
