Warm reminder of the Geoparks Division of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department: Guidelines for visiting Hong Kong Geopark

2022-06-06

The Sha Tau Kok Frontier Closed Area has gradually opened since June 2022. During the initial stage of the opening, designated group tours are allowed to go sight-seeing there and take a ferry at the Pier to visit neighbouring places including Lai Chi Wo and Kat O on designated dates.

Ap Chau, Kat O and Lai Chi Wo are neighbouring rural communities in Sha Tau Kok which are the attractions within the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region of Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. Members of the public may visit all three destinations in a one-day trip. The trip begins with a visit to Lai Chi Wo Village, the oldest, biggest and best-preserved village in the Northeast New Territories. Then, the trip continues with a visit to the nearby islands of Kat O and Ap Chau to experience the lifestyle and heritage of seafaring and Hakka villagers in the past. Lastly, members of the public may also explore rare landforms and unique historical architecture and conclude the trip with a taste of authentic Hakka cuisine.
