作為一個顏值和實力兼具的地方，湖區長期以來一直備受創意界的青睞，從18世紀開始便經歷著次次「復興」比如，特納（Turner）、柯勒律治（Coleridge）和湯瑪斯德昆西（De Quincey）這些藝術和文學大咖，就把湖區的山水當作他們的繆斯 又比如，著名的「湖區詩人」 華茲華斯（William Wordsworth）在《湖泊指南（Guide to the Lakes）》一書中，也談及了他在湖區漫步的好習慣。

其實，「湖區」一詞，不僅代表聯合國教科文組織世界遺產，還意味著一個空前巨大的國家公園 ： 這裡擁有英格蘭最高峰 Scafell Pike 和最深的湖 Wastwater 近5億年的地質巨變歷史記錄在此，縱橫複雜的地貌訴說著大陸架、深海汪洋、熱帶海洋和千米冰層相互碰撞的神奇自然故事。

你知道嗎？湖區不但有著自己的方言，還有很多「奇奇怪怪可可愛愛」的傳統比賽噢，比如：獵狗比賽（hound trailing）、越野路跑（fell running）、Cumberland and Westmorland 摔跤等等。
