To ensure that freelance tourist guides performing tourist guide duties in Hong Kong are better covered, the TIC decided to establish a “Work Insurance Scheme for Freelance Tourist Guides”. A directive has been issued to stipulate that effective from 1 January 2020, travel agents shall ensure that freelance tourist guides assigned by them are covered by work insurance for freelance tourist guides during the entire duration when performing tourist guide duties, and travel agents shall provide the freelance tourist guides a premium subsidy.
