Sha Tau Kok trip 20240608

Organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Conservationists, the field trip themed “Searching for Hakka Culture in Sha Tau Kok and Heritage in Former Frontier Closed Area” will be held on 8 June 2024 (Saturday).

The field trip begins with a tour of traditional Hakka residences in Shan Tsui, followed by a visit to the northeastern tip of the former Frontier Closed Area. Here, historic fences mark border between the Mainland China and Hong Kong. The tour also includes a stop at Japanese Battery Hill within the Robin’s Nest Country Park. The trip concludes in Tam Shui Hang, another Hakka village where ancestral halls and historic residences of various clans sit alongside each other. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with locals and gain their perspectives on tourism in the neighbourhood. (Remark: The Sha Tau Kok town which requires a Closed Area Permit will not be included in this tour.)
