The Cross-boundary Movement of Physical Currency and Bearer Negotiable Instruments Ordinance
The Cross-boundary Movement of Physical Currency and Bearer Negotiable Instruments Ordinance (the Ordinance) will be effective on 16 July 2018. Travellers arriving in Hong Kong via specified control points and in possession of physical currency and bearer negotiable instruments (“CBNIs”) with a total value over HK$120,000 are required to use the Red Channel under the Red and Green Channel System and make a written declaration to the Customs and Excise Department. If travellers arrive in Hong Kong not via specified control points or are about to leave Hong Kong, they must disclose, upon the request of the Customs and Excise Department, whether they are in possession of a large quantity of CBNIs and, if so, make a written declaration of the CBNIs.
